Waste not want not....this wild rose was taking over the planet and needed a severe prune and proved to be a much easier way of harvesting rosehips by an old farmer with dodgy knees 🦵We make delicious rosehip syrup every year for its vitamin C to help ward off colds. It has been a big hit in The Three Turnips CSA pop-up shop.

Magnificent homebred Cedric, only 20 months old an

Magnificent homebred Cedric, only 20 months old and entirely pasture fed and has lived outside all his life. He has had no concentrate feed at all. With the exception of some of our sainfoin haylage last winter, he has grazed old permanent pasture. Cedric is a Devon Ruby Red native breed well suited to our extensive low input system of farming. These old permanent grasslands with their thick thatch of grass and roots are a great carbon sink and growing beef in this natural way reduces the amount of methane expired into the atmosphere. Having cattle out eating grass also helps biodiversity, particularly dung beetles which in turn help a host of other invertebrates and birds in nature's natural cycle.
Grassfed beef is scientifically proven to be higher in Omega 3 oils and therefore better nutritionally as well as being more delicious!

Taking a few hours out to do some fun bundle dyeing. The result looks better in reality... 🤔 The woad and the cosmos sulphureus turned out fab. Planning a big session of indigo and woad dyeing this week ......for Christmas can you believe? I think the blue available in the leaves seems to be at its peak now. The blue in the photo is from a single dip in the dye pot!

Onions and dye plants drying in the grain shed taking advantage of the cold air being blown though grain in the neighbouring bay. The forecast is for more rain so we dare not chance leaving the onions to dry outside as we would in a normal year. There are a daunting amount of dyeplants to pick and dry for the winter and for 'Dye Kits' that we will be selling in the farm shop before Christmas. It seemed like a good idea at the time.....
