The first ever loaf baked from 100% wholemeal Ham

The first ever loaf baked from 100% wholemeal Hampen heritage wheat harvest 2022. 10 days ago this wheat was growing in the field! The wheat is a population of many, many heritage wheat varieties, grown with no artificial fertilizer and no sprays, zero inputs. We are delighted with the yield and even more thrilled with the quality of the grains despite the dry summer. The bread is absolutely delicious. So rewarding to eat truly homegrown bread.
There is 10 tonnes of grain in the shed and we are hoping to mill a significant proportion of this to sell to local bakers so please do get in touch if you would like some.

Clive is checking out the heritage population whea

Clive is checking out the heritage population wheat Torth y Tir. It is looking fab and standing well despite it's great height but the grain is still a little way off harvest. There may be as many as 100 different heritage varieties in this field building resilience to problems of disease and drought. The crop has received no artificial fertilizers, insecticides or fungicides. At the tillering stage it had one mixed dose of natural humates, biological amendments and trace elements. The previous crop was sainfoin (which is still present in the bottom of the crop)which had been fixing nitrogen for the last 7 years! This grain will be milled locally and we hope will go to local bakers to bake delicious healthy bread. We will, of course, be selling heritage flour in the new pop-up farm shop on Saturdays too!
